The Morning After Pill

The morning after pill is an emergency contraception used within 72 hours after sexual intercourse, to achieve the prevention of pregnancy. This method is a good idea in theory but I disagree with its process because it is actually quite dangerous for women. Women are exposing themselves to double the amounts of progesterone and estrogen two artificial steroids that are typically found in birth control. The contraception works by inhibiting ovulation, altering the normal menstrual cycle, and irritating the lining of the uterus so that if the first and second methods fail, the human being would die because it could not attach to the lining of the uterus. Simply put, the morning after pill is a chemical abortion. The effects of this chemical abortion are nausea, vomiting, infertility, breast tenderness, blood clot formation, and can also be life threatening.

The scientific evidence and support you have for your argument is strong. I would include even more evidence as to how it can negatively affect the health of the women who choose to take it. The only possible issue I can see with your argument is dealing with the idea of a "chemical abortion." Because abortion is legal and the ethical/moral issue is questionable (many people are pro-choice), it might be difficult to include an argument against abortion within the larger context of your argument against the morning after pill.

I found this very interesting because I didn't know all of the negative side effects from the morning after pill. I was wondering what exactly your position was; do you think the pill should not be offered, or just not offered over the counter to people over the age of 18. I would like to see more scientific data, such as how many actually experience the side effects or how effective the pill is. I think statistics could make your point even stronger.

Millions of women all over the world take birth control everyday, which already contain those artifical hormones that prevents ovulation to occur. If a female were involed in a unprotect sex, I feel that the best solution would be to try to prevent pregancy. But you do bring out the good points about being careful if they do decide to take the pill because it could cause some various side effects.

This is a very good argument and I can tell where you are going with your evidence. Although it could be a little stronger if you pull in quotes from medical research about the morning after pill. Also, I can tell that you disagree with the method by which the baby is aborted, but I am unsure about what you are arguing for. For example, do you want the pill to be illegal, or would you rather the chemical makeup of the pill to be altered so the process by which the baby is aborted is more to your liking? I do agree with you that the pill is a chemical abortion, and I think you have a good start. Hope this helps!

1. Morning after pill is not that dangerous for your body.

2. What would be the solution after an unprotected sex?

3. Everyone who decides to take a morning after pill should already be careful about taking it already.
